Land Management in the Tropics and its Effect on the Global Environment

This project is an interdisciplinary collaboration of several Departments of the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, the USDA International Institute of Tropical Forestry, and several off-island institutions. We focus on discrete areas in Puerto Rico that have undergone land-use changes over the past several decades. In Puerto Rico, large areas that had previously been devoted to different forms of tropical agriculture have been released to secondary succession over that period.
